Sunday saw South Lincs Steelers in the first round of fixtures at the Lincs FA over 50's championship. First game was against new comers Lincoln Utd. Steelers made the perfect start with Andy Goodley firing home after Just 90 seconds on the clock. Lincoln then gave away 4 quick offences for non walking and gave away a penalty. Unfortunately Captain Jamie Scaife though, put the ball wide of the right hand side post. Lincoln soon gave away another penalty, this time by their keeper for stepping outside of the area. Michael Bracegirdle stepped up and made no mistake putting the ball away. Andy Goodley then made it 3 nil with another good shot after 10 mins. Steelers finished the half 3 to the good. Two changes at half time saw Rob Taylor on for David Szydlowski and Vince Matchett on for Steve Hammond. Steelers continue to dominate and after 18 mins Andy Goodley scored to completed his hat rick. John Short came on for Jamie Scaife and the team comfortably saw out the game. A well deserved 4-0 victory.
Next up were Alford Town. This was a very even game, both sides had chances to score but both keepers were making good saves to keep the stalemate. Steelers broke the deadlock on 9 minutes through a fine worked goal by Andy Goodley continuing his fine scoring form. However Alford though drew level just before the half time whistle. Two changes made at the break which saw John Short come on for Jamie Scaife and David Szydlowski on for Rob Taylor. Alford then took the lead after 3 minutes of the second half with a penalty after Andy Goodley was judged to have stepped in the area. Steelers pushed hard for an equalizer sometimes leaving them exposed at the back but Chris Briston was up for the challenge making some fine saves to keep Steelers in the game. In the last throw of the dice, Jamie Scaife came back on for Michael Bracegirdle to join Steve Hammond an up front. With less than a minute to go David Szydlowski with his first goal for the club, found himself free in the middle and stroked the ball home with a well taken right foot shot to level the game. Final result 2-2.
Last game of day was against Grimsby Corinthians Reds. Grimsby started well, Chris Briston making some good saves, but it was Steelers who took the lead through Michael Bracegirdle after 10 minutes. The half ended 1-0. Rob Taylor came on for Vince Matchett and Steve Hammond on for Jamie Scaife and after 5 minutes of the second half Steelers doubled their lead with another goal by Andy Goodley scoring his fifth of the day. Two late changes, John Short and Jamie Scaife came on for Michael Bracegirdle and Rob Taylor to see the game out. Final score 2-0. Steelers finish the day top of the league by goal difference.
